A HOLIDAY MESSAGE FROM CAPE VINCENT COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRY
Happy Holidays to the Cape Vincent Community,
As the holidays approach and the year winds down, I want give the entire community a huge Thank You! We have had our challenges this past year but with the help of many of you, we have had another successful year. Helping our neighbors is what the holiday season is about. The pantry’s mission is to do just that year-round. Yes, it is more of a challenge sometimes than others but we always seem to be able to rise and meet the needs of those that need our help, because of you.
I want to take time to say a special thanks to a few that made a major impact on our ability to do our work. The many donors that gave what they could, be it a few dollars or many, you helped us keep the lights on, the freezers humming and the shelves stocked. I can’t name names, but you know who you are. We were even able to replace old freezer units with a beautiful 2 door commercial freezer this Fall.
To those that held Food Drives, you helped us provide many items not available from Food Bank of Central New York and we didn’t need to spend our funds to get them – thank you. Some did both. Lazy Acres deserves a special shout out for their numerous deliveries of box after box of donated food and their fundraising a generous donation amongst themselves. A tremendous help to all of our neighbors. And Snug Harbor held a golf tournament with all of the proceeds donated to the pantry – well over $3000! Then they had a food drive that resulted in 471.25 lbs. of food donated for the holidays. And many of our artists at Breakwater Gallery stepped up and donated their works for our Lion’s Club Breakfast raffle (and thanks Lion’s Club!). Cape is much the better for everyone’s generosity.
To the volunteers – it only happens because you make it happen. Every hour given benefits many and is priceless. Your lifting, toting, schlepping through the rain, snow and ice to get food to clients is invaluable. I try to say thank you each and every day you are there but it just doesn’t seem to be enough. Cape needs to know it only happens because of your generous donation of time. It does take a village – not an individual. You are a winning team and you are appreciated and loved beyond words.
Thank you all,
Rebecca Dowling
